Why Ghana?

Up until November 2007, any country Sue was in at the time was her favorite. Then, she went to Ghana and worked in a Ghanaian village. She could no longer make that statement, for Ghana had captured her heart.

WHY GHANA?

Sue followed the direction that God was given her to follow. In Ghana, Sue fell in love with people who have so little, but give so much. Life styles are simple. Water and electricity are not taken for granted and are luxuries not everyone can afford. Relationships are important. Faith, whatever beliefs are followed, runs deep.

While in Ghana in 2007, Sue worked with a group of nationals who call themselves Ambassadors for Christ, taking to heart the Scripture found in 2 Cor. 5:20, “So we are ambassadors for Christ, since God is making His appeal through us…” The Ambassadors are all professional people living in and near the village of Ankaase. On weekends, they work with youth and young adults teaching English, having monthly activities and competitions, all used as a platform to share the love and hope of Jesus Christ. Sue led workshops in “How to Teach the Bible to Children and Youth” and shared with them ideas on how to recruit volunteers.

Ankaase Methodist Faith Healing Hospital was also a major part of Sue’s life in Ghana. She became a part of the Prayer Ministry Team, visiting all patient rooms and praying for not only physical health for the patients but also for their spiritual well being. Sue gave the message several times during Out Patient Devotions and Staff Devotions, having to listen closely to the leading of the Holy Spirit since she had no study books or commentaries on which to rely.

People in Ghana are hungry for the Word of God. It is said that there are no Atheists in Ghana. Everyone believes in a god but not necessarily the One, True God. It is Sue’s desire to share the love of Christ with those she meets.

In 2008, Sue traveled to the Upper West Region of Ghana. Poverty in this region is widespread. So is HIV/AIDS and illiteracy. Yet, faith still runs deep. The folks at the Lawra Methodist Society have nothing; still, they are reaching out to the poor and needy. They have heard the call of Christ.

The Methodist orphanage in Lawra, Ghana, is home to 14 AIDS orphans. These children are the most beautiful in the world. Their big eyes and smiles would melt the heart of anyone. They have known abandonment but don’t understand it. The older ones attend primary school while the younger ones who are mobile attend a day care which is also run by the orphanage. What these children have to play with and have to do is very minimal. There is no money for toys and special equipment. The children are cared for and are happy.

WHY GHANA?

And, more importantly, “Why the Upper West Region?” Because no one else goes there. Because the children at the Lawra Orphanage deserve a chance of health and happiness. They need to know that the Lord has plans for their future, plans for their good, to give them hope.

HOW CAN THEY HEAR IF NO ONE TELLS THEM?

Sue wants to be that person who will tell them.
